Cutting Horse (Bonita Springs) Eco-Center
The Cutting Horse Eco-Center is a partnership between the City of Bonita Springs and Florida Native Plant Society. Donors include: Florida Power and Light (FPL), Charlotte Harbor National Estuary Program (CHNEP), Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation (SCCF) Native Landscapes and Garden Center, The Columbus Foundation, and many others. This 2.5 acre site will provide plants for periodic native plant sales and provide various outreach events such as classes and workshops. It also will be used for hands-on propagation workshops and training. Most importantly, it will show a diversity of native plants growing in the ground and various landscaping layouts. A wide variety of native plants will also be available for sale at this site in order to get more native plants in the ground.
At this point we are preparing the gardens with various plants, weeding like crazy. We have power to the site, but not to the classroom, yet.
We have two large planting sites. The mound and the smaller planting site have been joined together.
Things are moving quickly and we will be having plant sales and opening the garden to the public before you know it.
At this time, you can be involved with:
- Planting. Who doesn't like to plant plants?
- Making plant ID signage.
- Pulling weeds.
- Planning the site.
PLEASE NOTE: This is a secured site. Current access is allowed only with authorized persons or during events.
